Great weekend - refreshed for a week of sitting in front of a screen again.

Went to Medicine Hat for an 85th birthday. Had a great experience with Pawsitive Petsitting - they came and stayed overnight with the boys - while we stayed at the Hamptons Inn in Medicine Hat - where I made a mess of the waffle iron.

We zipped home early and found a route that cut a good 30 minutes off out trip home. So we had a quick bit and did our first kayak with the dogs at Little Fishing Lake. The day was perfect; not hot and not windy. Fred tried the sail (ok a little windy) and the dogs were pretty good. Duffy wanted to be with me and ended up in the water a couple times. Next weekend should be a blast.

I got fed up with the mystery blaring video. I understand that content costs money to make so I unblock some news sites. This is self-inflicted. I really appreciate the format where the ad is minimized the expands when touched.

I've been enjoying it for a long time on my S6. Looking forward to how it works with the tablet. It will be nice to have the two devices on the same version.

The hardest part is getting them back into the bag. I think we could have guessed that. It was supposed to thunder but it's been a beautiful evening so far. No wind even. Next time the dogs come along.

And clearly unable to take responsibility for his actions. Lost job opportunities and police questioning doesn't trump his desire to make her life fearful.

Madara lamented that technology was turning doctors into the world’s most expensive data-entry workforce: an AMA study found 50% of physicians’ time was at the keyboard, compared to a third spent interacting with patients.

Going grey has wreaked havoc on my eye shadow choices. With dark hair you can get away with anything, now I have to be very aware of tones. The arm swatching looks pale but you can see the tones work for me. I used the palette around 9 hours ago (no primer or foundation stuff because that's work). Staying power!

Will there be more Independence Day sequels? Will the Stargate reboot / sequel keep any aspects of SG-1? Did Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin actually write an Independence Day Sequel in the 2000s, and then not go through with it and even return the money they were paid for it to the studios?

All these questions were answered recently by Emmerich himself:

What's in your wearable storage?

What's in your wearable storage?

Most wearables have 4 MB of storage available. I always have a few pictures with me but the real beauty of that storage is being able to connect headphones and leaving my phone at home while I go do activities. If today is accurate, I would be able to go ~3 hours which is more than enough for my needs.

Xenocentrism - why people turn to alternative "medicine" when ill.

Xenocentrism - why people turn to alternative "medicine" when ill.

I don't do alternative medicine but I understand the appeal to control. I also understand why some doctors would suggest it. Much easier to deal with patients that "own" their recovery - or lack thereof. No one likes to be the bearer of bad news.

It amazes me how resistant people are to their alternate therapy not working. A guy at work was going to a chiropractor for years about his shoulder. He finally went to a doctor who put him in for physiotherapy (covered by our health insurance) and he regained most mobility in months. And that's a minor thing. Recently parents killed their child by choosing naturopathy over universally provided health care. They thought vinegar and ginger was as effective as medicine. Chillingly, they still do and they have more children.

I get people want to feel control - especially over a life changing illness - but this pretense that life is controllable can interfere with embracing their remaining time with friends and family.

Smashbox gives 4 shades of nude - maybe I'll find the right one for me.

I really like Smashbox products. They are well pigmented and I've used the L.A. Lights product before. It's a combination lip cheek. Two are a matte, cream finish and 2 are more shimmery. They are the perfect size for lip application and don't have a drying effect when it wears off. It's pretty long lasting.

I really like the Venice Beach Bronze for a nude. There isn't much product in each one so it looks like they will just be summer treats.

Obviously Brock Turner's family and friends think he's that good a catch. Look he even has women friends - or at least associates with women he doesn't think are worth pawing or screwing. He has potential - not like the black athlete who was served over 5 years for a rape he didn't commit.

I love my Tab S2 but I'm getting tired of waiting for Marshmallow on the 8" WiFi model. IF there is a flash again, I may update my tablet and trade a couple old tablets to offset the cost of the Tab A. 8" is too small for a kitchen device.

Dog Intelligence and What It Can Tell Us about Our Own Intelligence

Dog Intelligence and What It Can Tell Us about Our Own Intelligence

If you’re a true dog lover, you take it as one of life’s simple truths that all dogs are good, and you have no patience for scientific debate over whether dogs really love people. Of course they do. What else could explain the fact that your dog runs wildly in circles when you get home from work, and, as your neighbors report, howls inconsolably for hours on end when you leave? What else could explain the fact that your dog insists on sleeping in your bed, under the covers—in between you and your partner? At the same time, there’s no denying that some dogs are smarter than others. Not all dogs can, like a border collie mix named Jumpy, do a back flip, ride a skateboard, and weave through pylons on his front legs. A study published in the journal Intelligence by British psychologists Rosalind Arden and Mark Adams confirms as much. Consistent with over a century of research on human intelligence, Arden and Adams found that a dog that excels in one test of cognitive ability will likely excel in other tests of cognitive ability. In more technical terms, the study reveals that there is a general factor of intelligence in dogs—a canine “g” factor.

We really want to believe even when there is no proof. The problem I have with supplements is, no matter the claim there is no quality control to guarantee I'm getting what I pay for. I'm sad I was willing to do something to my dog that I wasn't willing to do to me.
