Cash incentive is how I quit smoking.

Cash incentive is how I quit smoking.

As the saying goes, though, you have to be ready to make a change. In this case a co-worker and I put money in a pot, added to it on a weekly basis depending on whether we smoked or not. The pot went to the person who fell off the no smoking wagon last. Most importantly for me, there was a defined time limit of 3 months. Long enough to build a habit, short enough to not feel like forever if I wanted to return to the activity.

Right now we go to punishment by way of taxing - which works for a lot of people right now.

According to WHO ...you don’t have obesity till your body fat actually impairs your health...

Dr Sharma is proposing the term healthy adiposity along with supporting the of uncoupling health from BMI. This is important because he is part of a health network that treats obesity.

As we (my family) age, our goal is to not be on medication and to be able to continue activities. I don't want dismissive health care based on what I look like.

Getting the hang of how this course works best for me.

Getting the hang of how this course works best for me.

Since I'm past the unit conversions and orders of magnitude shifts (for now) I find if I download the slides and listen to the lecture I can make notes with less pausing. It helps that this is so interesting.

Last kayak for the year. No rush to get out.

Last kayak for the year. No rush to get out.

Just another paddle around Sandy Beach. Dogs don't come when it's just one kayak going out or we're just minutes up the road. I'll be wearing a jane suit and jacket. Later it's cleaning the yaks and finishing this week of course work.

A nice piece from NPR on a GBI. Nothing Earth shaking here, but it is good to see it in a venue that is somewhat more mainstream.

Hope this is out early and retains IP68 rating.

This is my next phone so I'm all over rumours. Saving money so I can buy outright. It would make sense for the 4K density to only be one when using VR.

Typing responses from the T9V style keyboard is only tolerable because of the great prediction and context sensitive rely suggestions. Only type when I'm not alone 😀

It was also my downfall with pollution and ponds. I cannot for the life of me get the units right. argggg.

When I first read Lionel Shriver strange keynote - this was the first book I thought of.

For some reason, I had heard of this book and expected something along the lines of "I Spy". Instead of a light(ish) easy read along the lines of Adam Hall I got ... an unexpected education. For some reason, the betrayal of the system was more shocking than any of the George Smiley book.

Almost the last time for the season I think.

Almost the last time for the season I think.

Another wet suit trip without the dogs. Fred was water detecting so I paddled around the lake. Tried the seat in the low setting, nicer for paddling. All those upper body exercises have paid off, went out for over an hour and shoulders/arms feel good enough to do yard work when I got home. Got a couple bushes cut back so they can be transplanted.

People were eating ~1900 Cal/day - around what I eat or maybe a little more. Unless they were drinking a lot of pop, the calories aren't going to make a lot of difference and the weight could be as simple as retaining water. Needs a much larger sample size and longer study period.

It really is one of the things that keep me with them. Buy from the Samsung store in Edmonton; send to the Samsung repair place in Richmond if they tell me to (which is rare).

First up - figure out why the printer won't print. Tech hates me.

Next up conversions. Remember conversions? With exponentials? Plus I get to feel bad because car culture small town Canada uses way less energy than pretty well anywhere in Europe:)

Help! No sound when set to computer but TV is working ok.

Seriously annoying only because I watch netflix on my computer. I'm turning it off and going outside.

Every once in awhile I think about getting a windows tablet. Then I try checking for a setting on my desktop. I hate the way stuff is hidden.

Getting close to the end of the season.

Getting close to the end of the season.

When I first wanted to get a kayak it was so I could kayak while Fred metal detected. This is the first time we tried this out - the dogs stayed home. I paddled instead of using the mirage drive, it was relaxing. I also got the chance to put away the kayak myself, deflating and folding into the bag. Very doable for this older woman:)

Next season I should have the S8 (provided it's waterproof) I find I miss a lot of shots fiddling to get my phone out of the waterproof pouch. No I'm not getting one of those hefty life cases.

Great work Jasper Legion! Kayaking is a great choice for getting out

Great work Jasper Legion! Kayaking is a great choice for getting out

I have to admit that I've shifted to kayaking from golf (twisting ankles) and impact activities because of my ankle. It's a great way to be active and connect with nature. Our prairie lakes I enjoy paddling along lilies, seeing fish jump and loons ducking. It's hard not to feel peaceful.

Plus it's important for everyone to have access to activities to keep them from being isolated when they don't want to be.

[Review] Mpow T11 FM Transmitter
It's the end of summer, and yet I've still got a couple road trips left to do with my ol' vehicle.  And nothing helps a long drive better than having good tunes to sing along to. My vehicle doesn't have a CD player (well it does, but a CD is stuck in it) an...

The diet (I hate that word) you can follow is the diet that works for you.

The diet (I hate that word) you can follow is the diet that works for you.

I have a friend modifying eating by quitting snacks, another following a low carb regime and Fred eats vegan. I am trying to cut out candy-harder than I thought. In the end we all want self images, whether size or health, we aren't constantly trying to improve. There are so many factors affecting eating and metabolism how could one diet fit all?

When I was in school, it was calculators.

I wonder how much of this is fear because youth are more comfortable with the tech. There is a lot to monitor and it can be really hard for parents to model the behaviour they want their kids to have. Plus getting integration into classes, so much potential. The only problem I see is social media.

What decreases gun violence? Good question.

What decreases gun violence? Good question.

Oh look, funding to find out in a state that has decreased incidents of gun violence since 2000. I'm pretty sure taking people's guns away will not be a viable option but the NRA will flog it that way.
