People act like all pregnancies end in a live birth.

People act like all pregnancies end in a live birth.

Many, many do not and most of the time the women don't share their feelings even with their spouse. I was surprised at how many women told me their miscarriage stories in an effort to cheer me up. We didn't talk about it for years although we both felt a little wistful at times early on. I certainly wouldn't talk about it with some random guy so it's likely to be out of their experience.

Boy are they nice. Fit true to sizing. Very comfortable with reinforcement on the bum and inner thighs. The waist is high enough to not fold over when sitting and in the back there's extra padding to protect kidneys. It's 1mm only so not for super cold water but good for kayaking in cooler weather.

I'm a little confused about the episodic vs semantic memory vs training. I click trained Milo to wave when I said Hi Milo. Then I didn't do anything with him for years. Every once in awhile Fred or I will say Hi Milo and he waves. seems episodic to me.

As we shift from just harvesting resources we need more research into all the factors going into climate change. More accurate modeling also drives this need for information before creating policy.

A lot of carbon tax focus is on forcing change because it's cost effective. Luckily the cost of more efficient lighting has really come down, solar panels have increased in efficiency and traditional looks and better insulation is fairly easy to integrate.

This -> the internet is a reflection of us

This -> the internet is a reflection of us

Why is politeness in person so hard? Because we've become used to interacting on the internet where you so easily villainize others. Once other we see the person and their response putting on that filter is hard. Not that it matters because you can run back to your internet bubble.

I'm fostering self awareness. If I can't form a concise, opposing argument I keep scrolling. Sometimes, no amount of facts will make a difference. On my threads I've started deleting posts that are off topic. If the topic is ACA and you say Bill Clinton ran a whorehouse while in the White house that comment gets deleted as the topic is ACA.

I think a lot of the problem is click-bait headlines coupled with people's emotional response to the headlines then not reading the article. I do that too so I'm working on stopping that.

Killjoys and Dark Matter in the summer and Five-0 in the winter.

Killjoys and Dark Matter in the summer and Five-0 in the winter.

Growing up I watched the original Hawaii 5-0 with my parents. I didn't start watching the reboot until a guy at work told me he enjoyed it. Not sure if he's still watching.

I find character development on Five-0 really interesting. One show McGarrett and Danno had an argument about 2nd amendment rights with both sides well stated. Everyone is emotionally supportive of each other. Even when they have a bad guy in that room it's more of a psychological play than rubber hose violence.

"Alarm sounds are engineered to elicit particular responses in humans. And yet, sometimes, humans choose not to respond, having decided that the situation is not urgent enough or that the sound is a false alarm. Audio alarm designers seek to avoid this by designing sounds that have an intuitive meaning and precisely reflect the level of urgency. But what makes an “awooga” sound more or less urgent than a “ding”? And how do you create an alarm noise that’s annoying enough to get someone’s attention, but not so annoying that said person disables the alarm?

And how do you create an alarm noise that’s annoying enough to get someone’s attention, but not so annoying that said person disables the alarm?

Auditory alarm designers like Carryl Baldwin face these questions regularly. Baldwin, a human factors psychologist, constructs sounds in a lab, tests those sounds on human subjects to see if they are communicating the intended meaning, and ensures they are appropriate for use as alarms in household, aviation, medical, and automotive settings."

Winter is coming and with it our high energy consumption times - although electricity is actually pretty stable since we have gas heating/cooking. We suspect stray electronics on standby and garage heating as culprits to address.

The Affordable Care Act will be edited - not suspended - by the incoming administration.

I refuse to call it Obamacare because just using that name blinds people to the benefit of the plan. The ACA will remain as the initial step toward detaching basic health care coverage from employment. Plans will be cheaper and provide less services so insurance companies can retain profits. Hatch even makes coverage mandatory with payment through tax credit. I'm a big fan of means testing. Well off people just don't need to add to their hoard by getting money from the government, subsidies or tax credit.

Patients must be informed and respected while undergoing medical treatment.

Birth is a natural process but unless you are alone in a field there is likely to be some medical response. Turning to midwives, for birth, or naturopathy is wellness areas indicates a failure in patient care training. If you can't discuss a treatment so you and the patient agree and understand maybe don't work with patients.

Organ donation is an easy way to support the living through transplants or medical research. I remember when I got my mom to sign my organ donation form. She asked how I would be put back together on resurrection day. I said surely the same way as every one else. It's not as if you stay as a body after death.

Don’t take just the existence of this COP as the stamp of approval for it; ... Do your own due diligence before making irrevocable choices.

^^This is why I continued as I struggled through my sustainable resources MOOC. I wanted to understand policy and the role my decisions make. The data is out there, publicly available. It's even lumped into convenient groups like transportation, industrial and residential. There's just simple calculating anyone can do once they are shown the conversions.

How does the carbon tax work and what should it be to drive change? 2nd or 3 week. It's unfortunate that these are all health effects so people sweep them under the rug of "it won't happen to me and if it does it's in the future." It's easy to exclude that from personal core values.

BTW $10 carbon tax is an appeal to the core value of spending as little as possible on something. It should be at least $50 to drive change that would keep coal as a backburner baseline energy source.

Alberta pharmacists are pretty good about giving info but how many people ask?

Really, just by being in the drugstore by the pharmacy, it is implied supplements are healthy even though there is product quality control. Interestingly, the items on the list may be listed as a natural health product but I'm not sure I would lump vitamins and minerals in with echinecea. I can't wait for medical AI that gives recommendations solely on efficacy and all recommendations are covered under our health care. People who want to pursue supplements and other wellness can either purchase outright or through supplemental health insurance.

Dr Sharma re-iterates the goal should be to stop the gain.

Dr Sharma re-iterates the goal should be to stop the gain.

So many people get dismayed about not loosing weight after making a behaviour change that they forget to reward themselves for not gaining. Last time I made an effort to change behaviour I get goals and used non-food rewards. A lot of that when by the wayside after my accident. No appetite (for a couple years) keeps the pounds off. But there was a food change in there as well. Fred has gone vegan and we avoid low nutrient food by not keeping a lot of it in the house.

Tastes change, we can work with that as part of a health challenge.

Yay, troubleshooting. Contacted #FitBit because our Aria scale started working intermittently. I'm happy with the outcome.

Are you so busy you don't troubleshoot and just replace stuff? That's where I was with the Aria. It was burning through batteries and being unreliable. I was willing to buy another but Fred said nope, not long enough life span. So I went to their forums looking for help. Sure enough someone else had the same problem and were told to contact customer service. Did some troubleshooting and provided proof of ownership and got an out of warranty replacement.

I've found most manufacturers stand behind their product. You just need to be adult in your expectations.

As a bonus, I had a high oil level !?! warning on the Macan and it turned out to be poor quality gas. Filled up and the warning went away. Whew.

Lashtastic - Mascara sampler

I'm really enjoying this kit. The smaller sizes last me a couple of weeks. I didn't realize how much difference there actually is in formulations. Two-faced gave me long feathery lashes while Tarte was thicker. Next up YSL and it should last quite awhile. Heads up if you get this sampler, shake well before opening because the product settles.

I cannot believe I am tempted because the Porsche brand would match my Macan...

Sounds pretty sweet ...curved screen, pitch-black anodized aluminum rear, a 4,000mAh battery, 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage... but what about the UI and Android update plan? If you have a Porsche, you know their tech adoption is pretty meh. It really is aimed at the Apple crowd, simple and not a lot of options. Vehicle options which are numerous and pricey.

Luckily I am not tempted enough to import it:) S8 it is then.

This is brutal. The woman did what she thought was right for her child by getting insurance only to find she could have burned the money and gotten around the same value - would probably offset $8 in heating. I'm glad the soccer association's insurance was seamless. I've always worn eye protection for sports like squash and racquetball, maybe it's time for eye protection with soccer.
