Filed taxes tonight. I have an S8 on pre-order.

Even had Fred do his data entry. We use TurboTax so it's pretty painless. Next year I'm going to wait until everything is available to download from CRA before starting. It's a pain to go back a delete stuff. Filed on line so it should be done soon.

  1. Based on my U.S. experience, Turbo Tax has declined in quality steadily over the last nine years. I loved it the first couple of times I filed through them, 2008 and '09. Then they just plain did away with customer service, hiding that fact by referring your questions to the "Turbotax Community," a warm and fuzzy euphemism for other customers who don't know any more than you do. That is like in Airplane! when the flight attendant asks on the PA, "by the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?"

  2. Our taxes are pretty simple. I can pull down info from the CRA mostly. The bank also provides very clear investment documents. I've been doing taxes since we had to use tables then manual calculations. Also did it for a home business. I think there's a difference for the Canadian product because there is no legislation against the government prefilling our return and I know that's a thing in the US.

  3. I've been using Turbo Tax for a few years, so I can Netfile. I used to grab the big book of forms and do it manually though. Honestly, I think it's something everyone should do at some point, and a skill that should be taught in high school. It's not HARD, just tedious. I filed last month ... but have a few more weeks to pay what I owe this year. I think this is only the third time since I turned 16 that I've had to pay though, so could be worse. My wife ended up with all the refund somehow. LOL Guess it all balances out one way or the other.

  5. I've heard way, way too many horror stories - including family members - to ever touch H&R Block. I'll fill the forms by hand first. A particular favourite was the year they told my brother that neither he, or his wife, could claim their daughter as a child for tax purposes. Seriously. You can't make that $%@^ up! Maybe they're better elsewhere ... but I'll never find out.

  6. Brian Arbenz Interesting. I've used TurboTax for years and it's been getting better and better. Perhaps it's just different for us Canadians.

Cass Morrison What made you choose the Samsung?

  7. In the Political Action Committee-run U.S., filing taxes, like every other once public process, is all done for the needs of those who have bought the legislators. 😤
