  1. 18 months is more than Sweden but I guess it also depends on how they can be used.
We have 480 paid days in total, out of which 60 (may become 90) are dedicated to each partner and the rest can be split however you want.

The thing though is, and what a lot of people do is:
    1. Not use all of those 480 days before the kids start preschool, but save them to extend vacations later on. They can be used up until the child is 12 years old.
    2. Only "consume" for instance 3 paid days per week when being at home. Sure, you don't get as much money but it may still be enough, and then you can stay at home longer if you wish.

I'm on paternity leave with my second child at the moment. We have about 100 days still saved on our oldest (4 years old)

  2. Realized the graphics implies we have 14 weeks (90 days) dedicated for each partner. I guess that's already been decided in law then.

  3. I know a couple guys at work that took 6 months or more. There's also a separate family leave available for elder care and such.

  4. In the United States, you get five months of unemployment, and that's our "safety net."

  5. Brian Arbenz Ours is administered through the same department (Employment and Social Development.) but from different budgets and the time is not counted against Employment Insurance benefits.

  6. My husband (military) gets 10 days of parental leave and sadly that puts him above the average.
