If you have a newer car (that is newer than the '80s) warming up your car can be detrimental to performance. Not to mention polluting.

If you have a newer car (that is newer than the '80s) warming up your car can be detrimental to performance. Not to mention polluting.

My Macan doesn't have any time of engine warmer yet I get in after 8 hours of it sitting at -20C, start the engine and drive away as soon as windows are cleared. During the summer I let the engine shut off instead of idling - it unnerves other drivers and bystanders:)

  1. Around here you can get a fine for idling more than 2 minutes.....

  2. Turn your heater on full blast, hit the AC button, and crack a window open for a moment....
    Your interior will defog much quicker

  3. No. It damages piston rings and oil doesn't make it to wetted engine parts at idle.
