There is a lot of violent near history (the subject is history since 1890). No need to show a ultra-violent re-enactment or a religious event from outside that period.
There were warnings (some may even call them trigger warnings!) about violence that dulled any inclination I had to see it. I only hope I would have had the guts to walk out of the class like some of the students did.

My English teacher showed 1984 to our class once.
ReplyDeleteI can see that being shown in English; disturbing but not torture porn. I can't see the Passion of the Christ being shown in a History class covering 1890 to present.

ReplyDeleteThe movie was totally off topic. I would hesitate to show any dramatized history media during a class unless it was specifically a documentary like world at war
ReplyDeletePassion of the Christ was religious propaganda which gave Christians a reason to take their family to a violence porn movie. I saw it with my church, back when I attended church. It was one of the many discomforts that eventually pushed me away.
