I built a little stand a couple of years ago that sits on my nightstand, so it gets propped on that, and plugged into a speaker. Then I stream music to fall asleep to. It works for me.
Next to my bed. I use a third party alarm clock. The Doze feature seems to cause delays in third party alarm clock apps. It seems to shut them down. I've missed alarms before. If I am charging my phone, Doze does not kick in and my alarm goes off on time.
