Do you use an ad blocker? I do.

Do you use an ad blocker? I do.

I got fed up with the mystery blaring video. I understand that content costs money to make so I unblock some news sites. This is self-inflicted. I really appreciate the format where the ad is minimized the expands when touched.

  1. I agree. I want ad supported content and I understand this is how quality content is supported, but I do not want to be ambushed by noisy whirligigs and darked out screens that demand I go through a gauntlet prior to accessing the page. In fact, I deliberately do not patronize companies that do that. I also understand that they sometimes are the victim of ad companies that do it on behalf of their own interests rather than the clients they're supposed to represent.

I do not ad block, but I immediately back out of parasitic and predatory ad laden sites and attempt to find the content elsewhere. That is my way of contributing to more equilibrious balance between giving and getting.

  2. If it's an article that I'm reading, I don't want blaring videos that are hidden and force me to find them. If it's a video that I want to watch, I'm fine with watching a video ad before my video. When I'm reading, I tend to skim articles to see if I want to read more. Having a pop up video just turns me off and breaks my rhythm. When I want to watch a video, I would plan to at least take some time, so a short video ad does not feel intrusive.

  4. I use ad blocker software because it became necessary. Once again there is a false idea that advertisers make your content free. Ads only take away from the end user and from the comments on the original article the sediment is echoed.
