Stopping a habit cold turkey is rarely successful.

Stopping a habit cold turkey is rarely successful.

Whether it's eating certain foods, budgeting money or quitting smoking, you have to be motivated to maintain a big change.

  1. I don't think using cash only really saves money. If you can't budget or restrain yourself, it doesn't matter what form of payment you use.

I've never run into a card only restaurant in Metro Vancouver. Cash is always an option and some restaurants accept only cash.

I just don't get the notion of spending only the cash you have or spending all the cash you have on you. My wife thinks if we carry around a lot of cash, we would have the incentive to spend it. I usually just load up my wallet. Over time when it gets low, I just withdraw more cash.

In these days where electronic commerce is becoming more and more prevalent, I'm surprised the author didn't run into someone who couldn't figure out how to make change. Happens to me once in a while.

  3. It's like anything else, make it too hard and you revert to previous behaviour. Men and women may look at cash differently. Fred carries a lot, I have $5. I use tap to pay, he shops on line. Here we're more likely to run into no cards (cheques accepted!) than cards only.
