Does retaining the name promote discussion of residential schools?
I don't think it does unless you go there. I certainly had no idea who it was named after, just that it's a good school. There's something to be said for naming institutions in a neutral manner.NAIT, SAIT, BCIT,SIAST.

I never knew Ryerson was the person behind the residential school system. When something like a school is named after someone, I see that as honouring that person for doing something good. I don't think we should name our schools after people who did something that is considered bad today. I don't need a school named after him to know about the residential school system.
