This happened to us - we said send us the bill we'll pay it. They didn't, we didn't.
We're lucky as we had a good financial reputation and could hold out for the 7 years this fake debt registered. It was linked to a phone number we had disconnected prior to the date of the supposed call. It's more intimidating than those CRA calls because they seem to be calling from a collecting arm of Equifax. Is that even a thing?

"Proof of Ownership of Debt " means the claimant holds the original document. If not, they can go piss up a rope.
