I live in a small Canadian Prairie city with a spouse and a dog. We retired in 2018. This is what life is like.

Watching Oh Canada leg of the grand tour.
Watching Oh Canada leg of the grand tour.
Hammond towed a boat on gravel roads at 70 kph with a Macan. Yikes. Watching reminded me of what I don't like about that gang very judgmental. Anyway, love our Macan, does what we want. Would recommend to anyone looking for this type of vehicle - which is very practical where we live.

70 on a gravel road with no trailer is pushing it, IMO.
ReplyDeleteDepends how comfortable you are on gravel. If you're not used to it at all, it's definitely pushing it. If you ARE used to it, and knowing how your vehicle reacts on it, you can go plenty faster than 70 without issues. Growing up, I thought nothing of doing 100 on gravel roads ... because I lived on them and drove them for hours a day. But that was decades ago. These days, I'm less comfortable on them, and have adjusted accordingly. This comedic trio has high performance driver training ... 70 on gravel is easy enough, even with the trailer.
ReplyDeleteThe Macan totally won that competition.
Sure, there's always the comfort level. I've had no problems doing 100+ on decent, flat gravel roads with excellent visibility. But, in hindsight, all it would have taken to ruin my day would have been one off-camber dip or rut, or a deer suddenly springing up from a ditch.
ReplyDeleteDeer will get you on pavement as easily as gravel. Been there, took a big doe broadside across the front of my truck at 90km/h in 2001. LOL
ReplyDeletePhil Stevens speaking of ditches, I followed someone around a gravel corner they were way more familiar with than I was and hit the ditch. Luckily I could drive out. Hubby came along shortly after and saw the tire tracks and knew it was me. That and the grass stuck in the bumper gave me away.
