A tale of 2 perspectives. Dad is selling his project cars and someone came to take a look.

A tale of 2 perspectives. Dad is selling his project cars and someone came to take a look.

There was a bit of a language barrier plus dad speaks loudly and gruffly because he thinks he hears just fine. We were leaving when the guy and spouse arrived. Guy big smile and shaking hands with dad who is ... loud and gruff although he did shake hands after a minute.

Fred said he didn't think the guy would buy the cars, look at the beat up van he was driving. I said you never know, people have friends who can help move things and if he likes to work on cars these are great because there is almost zero electronics.

Got home and after some dealing the cars are sold for $1K and the guy will bring friend with a truck Monday, left a car battery as security. I asked dad if he was sure it was sold and he said oh yes, he was driving a nice van. (The perception thing)

Turns out the guy is a Syrian refugee who was a mechanic in his home country and enjoys working on cars. Dad seems to think he would have a pretty good job due to his skills; I'm not so sure. In any case, hopefully he'll get an enjoyable project and if he can sell for a good price after more power to him. I may be helping clean out the garage while Fred is at home.

  1. Nice! They look like a late 60s and a mid-70s MGB. Some day I'll have the time to do a project like this!

  2. They are the colors of Canada’s flag. 🇨🇦 Can’t be coincidence!

  3. The midget is a great fun car if you can fit into it! If they are running or only need a little work, $1k is a steal. Not really investment cars, but 2 solid looking cars at that price is hard t get.

  4. Fun little cars, for sure. I miss being able to work on cars ... when they were mechanical. It was my favourite thing about everything I owned built pre-90s. Best will always be my 63 Falcon though. Loved that little bird.

  5. First sale fell through - I expect nowhere to fix and not really enough funds.

Relisted and ended up selling to a 14 year old who does some track racing. He brought his dad with him and they will turn into a project car for the kid to drive when he's old enough. The dad knew quite a bit about restoration and understood what I meant by a thorough disassembly and spa treatment for the car. Kid got a smoking deal but if he takes the time to restore more power to him. His sister has a 2002 Mini to work on.
