Racism is negative stereotying (this is about the black woman doctor whose qualitfications were questioned when she responded to a request for help). It's nice that the doctor didn't reveal the flight attendant's name. Bigoted actions against the doctor doesn't give her a free pass to write weight based slurs against the flight attendant. I hope the flight attendant examines their biases but I hope the Doctor also examines their bias. They are suppose to help all people, not just the one deemed worthy by fitting a physical cohort.

  1. People use pejoratives..... That's never going to end.

Pejoratives certainly are not part of any kind of polite discussion or healthy debate, but then again not all communication is a polite discussion or healthy debate..... I'm not remotely sure it should be.

In any level of discourse it seems to me that as soon as a person starts playing from their pejorative deck, it demonstrates that they have run out of rational, intelligent, or civil cards.

  2. The only time I have heard the term used, it was in the TV series Cheers. The term is part of the name of a rib place in one episode. I did not know it was a derogatory term.

  3. If you are complaining about racism while using insults it diminishes your argument Clinton Hammond. I'm all for insulting people deliberately.

I hadn't heard it used until Fred use it a long time ago to refer to a young overweight woman Gene Chiu.

  4. you are welcomento insult people directly if/when/how you so choose Cass Morrison and you sure as hell don't need MY permission! Lol

But.... I am welcome to think less of someone who does.....

I can't think of an example, outside of comedy, where I've heard the word "heifer" used as a pejorative...... One expects pejoratives in comedy so it didn't bother me then....

  5. As someone who has raised beef cattle for 12 years, I can only surmise that it must have been ignorant townies who coined the insult. Heifers tend to be lean and rangy unless they're grossly overfed. You want an overweight bovine? Steers and bulls put on more weight every time, followed by older cows.

  6. I don't think the actual physical aspect matters. Cows are bigger than humans.
