A good argument for renewable energy; stay local.
I can see how globalization has left the less wealthy in "First world economies" feeling resentful - especially in poorly regulated markets. Times have changed quickly and complexity has increased. Renewable energy - especially solar - gives control back to local users. They bear the installation costs and use the energy they create. It also makes electricity more available during disruptions.
