S=shouldn't have paid that. M=shouldn't have let a 15yo be tortured.

We don't talk about this because we are very clear where we stand. This was a kid. Taken to another country by his father. One that was invaded and the population fought against it. This kid was the scapegoat because he wasn't killed. then we allowed him to be tortured after capture - when we were pretty sure it was happening.

Those bitching about the pay out would probably send themselves into debt to fight a drunk driving charge where their child killed someone. It's very easy to be judgmental when you think you could never be in that circumstance.

  1. I'm on the fence re Mr. Khadr, nobody can say for sure what goes on in a firefight....been there. I take exception however to the statement the country was invaded and the population fought back. The country was a hideout and base of operations for a group of terrorists intent on killing not only non Muslims, whites, but their own people who did not subscribe to their views.

  2. If the government requested help then it wasn't an invasion, you're right. Us not liking their views and/or feeling threatened is not good enough.

  4. People are too caught up in the idea of him being a "terrorist' - and are completely ignoring the fact that as a Canadian citizen, he had RIGHTS. They were ignored, willfully, by the Harper government and now the courts have verified that. That's all this case, and settlement, is really about.

No, you don't have to like it, but there it is. He spent 10 years being tortured in a foreign prison because our government decided to ignore his basic human rights as a Canadian. You want to blame someone for the 10 million payout, go yell at Harper. He did it. Trudeau is just cleaning up the aftermath.

  5. Yup, shouldn't have let a kid be tortured. Trudeau said it well from the G20 summit.
