These 2 leave and it will be an all white team.
The pathologist left last season and I don't count the food truck guys as core characters. Shame if it is a race driven salary dispute.

I would say that networks look at viewer ship or potential viewer ship changes. The loss of these Asian actors and their potential replacements may not cause much of a loss of viewer ship. Viewer ship amounts to money. I certainly would have liked the network to have taken a lead and given them equal pay. Given the likely majority of the viewers and how money is a big factor, I don't think non-caucasian actors really have as much leverage.
ReplyDeleteIt's unfortunate that you're probably right.
ReplyDeleteRight now, the only Asian actor in a lead role on a TV series I know of is Lucy Liu on Elementary. I love how the writers and producers made this role both non-gender and non-race specific. She definitely has equal screen time as Miller. I wonder what her salary is compared to Miller.
ReplyDeleteThe original Hawaii Five-0, the longest running police show ever in the U.S., was subtly racist to the core. It's not that a white guy was the commander over many Asian-Americans. It's that only the white guy could have been the commander. That was a strict formula adhered to often unconsciously.
