It's the detain portion is a fundamental change that concerns me.
We've seen how well Canada protects it's citizens with the Khadr case. The US government takes many opportunities to undermine Canadian social structure from bashing our health care system to controlling the definition of subsidy for the purpose of trade to dairy management which, at minimum, reduces food waste.
Things that are routine in Canada - reproductive rights, same sex marriage, inclusive military - are all disputed at various state levels if not the federal level. Should that become an issue during pre-clearance we should be able to withdraw our request to visit without penalty and certainly without detention.

Exactly, and one of those emails was mine. Giving a foreign power the right to detain citizens in their own country is unconscionable and if passed will result in my withdrawal of support for the Liberal party after a lifetime of support. smh
