Since last you posted on this, I have now seen the first three seasons (binge-watching is not a problem when you're an insomniac).
If the series really ends with the dark ships emerging from the singularity, it would be the decent thing to do to fund at least a double-length final episode to tie up the WTF moment.
That said, I thought the script writing team lost its way in season three, with some episodes relying far too much on viewers being in the thrall of the self-assumed brilliance of writers who were clearly out of ideas.

There is always some meh episodes but I found certainly the last few were great.
