Full size Echo or the Dot? Home Mini probably won't sound as good as a full size Echo, but the Dot won't even come close to the Home Mini - unless you connect it to another speaker. The Dot really wins in THAT respect. But, also requires another speaker. Then again, it can use any speaker you already have, where the Mini needs another Chromecast Audio adapter purchase. I'm not sure if I'm getting one or two Minis for Christmas (hoping it's two!) but I'm going to order myself a Dot anyway. I can see some fun uses for both of them in the future. Been watching YouTube videos .. and the stuff you can do with some wemo switches, relays, and a raspberry pi is crazy!
ReplyDeleteUh - both! I got one mini to try. Actually the sound isn't too horrible if you keep the volume down. We got the Chromecast Ulta anyway and it's connected to a 7.2 surround sound with B&W speakers.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to trying out the Echo/Dot. Since I don't Fred has Amazon Prime the Echo may be going back.
I've been fascinated all night by these cheap little IoT DIY boards ... that apparently Alexa can see as a WeMo device ... people are doing some wild/crazy stuff with them. I'm REALLY debating getting a bunch of it to play with. Kinda geeking out on it tonight.
