Does not seem like justice to me when manslaughter was an option.

You don't lean into a vehicle with a loaded handgun then act surprised when you shoot someone in the head. Basic gun safety. To be fair he probably would have shot white young men too. Perhaps the juries should be made up by peers of the victims.

At least his buddies had his back.

  1. Would he have leaned in with a loaded handgun in the first place, if the young man had been white? (This is not idle or random speculation, but an attempt to understand internalized racism and the response of his defenders.)

  3. Here's the thing. This is Canada. Anyone in Canada who owns/has owned/intended to own a gun (and I'm talking long rifles here, not even handguns yet) MUST have gun safety training in order to acquire a PAL. Handguns? Different story entirely! You need ADDITIONAL specialty training to get that license (restricted firearms). For that handgun to be loaded and uncased, unless going to and from an approved firing range ... is criminal in itself. Let's not even get to the "accidental" parts. Did he think it was unloaded? You're not supposed to handle that gun without FIRST - VERY FIRST THING - opening that chamber to ensure that it is NOT loaded. Oh, wait. By law, firearms must be stored UNLOADED - with the ammunition locked up by physical barriers, not even with the weapon. He accidentally went and got the bullets and put them in the chamber without knowing? The SAFETY SWITCH must be physically turned off for it to fire. And then, you're also taught that you do NOT PUT YOUR FINGER INSIDE THE GUARD unless you are certain of your target and your intent is to fire.

The sheer volume of wrong that had to happen before a bullet could leave that barrel proves intent. And if it was truly an accident, after ignoring all those levels of safety protocol to get a loaded restricted weapon into his hand in the first place, I'm a monkey's frickin' uncle.

There is so much wrong with this verdict that at the very, VERY least a manslaughter conviction wasn't issued (after he admits firing the gun that killed the kid) is very, very suspicious.

Something is very wrong here, and I hope the family can find some answers. They deserve that much.

  4. George Station he may have. There's a lot of trespassing and theft that rural dwellers get tired of. Community word was he wasn't going to jail. That's why I said a jury of victims would be more fair.
