Ok, if we're going to do that we may as well also implement ranking and let the 2% who refuse spoil ballots.
I think I drove the LeadNow phone contact crazy when I said I was more interested in getting the Senate impartial and working on what we have to be representative. If voting legislation is up for review though, it should include going to ranking, prohibiting political PACs and party funded vendors for campaign tools. And it should be done while the Conservative Party is not in power as they tend to favour corporations rather than the voters who pay them.

I live in a small Canadian Prairie city with a spouse and a dog. We retired in 2018. This is what life is like.

Age shouldn't be a factor
ReplyDeleteIntelligence, knowledge of the issues from multiple sides, the ability to cogitate a comprehensive address of the issues from multiple povs
Those should be requirements to be afforded the privilege of voting.
I'm still a fan of mandatory voting as well. I know. Fire away.. but if you want to live in a democracy you should participate, and in Canada you really have no reason not to. Though the option to spoil a ballot/vote no confidence should be an option. If you're that committed to not voting because you don't like the candidates, then you should reflect that on the ballot. Stay aways don't benefit anybody except first past the post elections.
ReplyDeleteDown here in the US of Apathy, we need to raise the concern level, not lower the voting age. Scandalously few people under 25 vote at all here.
ReplyDeleteNobody under 25 or over 55 should be allowed to vote anyway.....
