There should be a large enough pool of units to dedicate some to pet owners. Maybe the SPCA should become landlords for people and animals.
Dogs (and other pets) don't recognize property ownership and many people are not good at respecting other people's choices not to be affected by pets. I like cats, just not in my yard. I know there are people who like dogs, just not in their hearing. Allergies aside, pet owners can be their own worst enemy.

I live in a small Canadian Prairie city with a spouse and a dog. We retired in 2018. This is what life is like.

I own pets, and I side with a landlords right of refusal.
ReplyDeleteMe too, in case that wasn't clear. The choice to dedicate units would be up to the landlord. Municipalities could offer some tax relief or something to encourage pet friendly spaces.
ReplyDeleteConsidering that pets and their support are a major, unnecessary contributor to Anthropogenic Global Climate Change, I'm not sure we won't see a trend toward discouraging keeping pets in the next 100-200 years.....
