Western Producer, serving farmers asks if having blood on your hands is better than having insurance replace goods. Rural crime is committed by rural people.
It would depend on if they think thieves are as valuable as livestock - and I would argue there's a proportion who don't. There are people who would rather kill or maim someone than install a security system and claim insurance. Never make the mistake of thinking rural communities are friendly or that if you are in need of help you can approach a farmyard.

I live in a small Canadian Prairie city with a spouse and a dog. We retired in 2018. This is what life is like.

I debate the fact that rural crime is committed by rural people. Our area west of Red Deer is constantly hit by thieves that come from the city for easy pickings. Very few of the thefts are by anyone who lives within 100km of us. A lot of them seem to steal a vehicle and head out into the country, venturing onto properties around 10 am while we are all at work (many of us in the city!)
ReplyDeleteThey are talking about Sask so maybe it's different there.
