Albertans - still sexist.

Albertans - still sexist.

NDP gets the support of the Feds for the pipeline and is very vocal in support of oil revenue but still suffers from anything a a woman can do, a man can do better. NDP supported people during the downturn yet with things getting better the Cons can finish the job? Based on what exactly? Kenney is a blustery politician with a record of supporting religious white gu... oh.

  1. {Note: this turned into a rant, but I feel like you're a sympathetic ear, so I am gonna post it anyway}

    I participated in this survey!!! It's nice to see that my voice was heard. Too bad it was drowned out by everyone else's. It's amazing how different my opinions are than the mean/median. In the first graph, I would have these as my top 5 issues: Education, Healthcare, Deficit, Diversification, Economy, with the rest as less "on my mind".

    As you know, I work in an exceptionally well-paid field, and I have generally been not-too-stupid with my finances, so we don't struggle. My retirement savings might be a little lacklustre, but I'm confident that we won't be destitute.

    As to the political landscape, urgh! It's super frustrating because I feel like our politicians are all idiots. Don't get me wrong, I get that it's a complex game of chess they have to play when it comes to pleasing constituents (who we also know aren't always the brightest crayons in the box), but man oh man, I feel like maybe I should throw my hat in the ring. But you know that feeling when a job looks like it's gonna be too big, so you aren't sure you really wanna take that first step? Yeah, that's what I feel.

    You know what I really want to do? Educate. How do I forcefully jam understanding into other people's heads (from the politicians to the constituents). Okay, here are some points I wish more people understood (and this is just stream-of-thought, so forgive the grammar, or tone, or whatever):

    1. Education. Where do I start? It is the single most important thing we can give our young people, and it really shouldn't stop once kids earn their various certifications. Adults need it, too. It absolutely should not ever be unattainable. The future of our ... everything depends on the population understanding the things they are reading in the paper, understanding the way of things, understanding natural phenomenon, science, math, languages. It's exceptionally obvious just by doing a meta-study of the places in the world that place Education high on their priorities list. Amazing education directly impacts the economy, employment, quality of living, and so on.

    2. Healtcare. I'm not gonna beat this one to death, I think most people are starting to get it. We have an ageing population, and with it an increase in age-related ailments & illnesses. The path is obvious, I think. Or is it?

    3. Deficit. I feel like this should be a no-brainer. If we continue to spend more money than we have, on things that will not likely pay dividends in the future, then we're going to have a real problem. This ties in to Economy.

    4. Economy: HOLY FOR THE LOVE OF PETE why can't politicans get it in their thick skulls that putting all our eggs in one basket is a recipe for disaster? GAAHHH!! We NEED to expand our economy beyond oil & gas ... not only because of environmental concerns, but because the whole darned world is moving into a new paradigm. We should be on the forefront of that.

    5. Diversification: Pretty much self explanatory ... I think.

  2. Yes, I'm a sympathetic ear. I would be in the order 1,2,5,4,3 but 3 to 5 are interlinked.

  3. Yeah, I struggled with picking an order for 3,4,5 ... and you're right, they're all three facets of the same issue.

    Also, I want a rebate for when I finally buy my Tesla Model 3. Haha!
