I support minimum wage hikes because minimum wage should lift a full time worker above the poverty line. I'm glad AB ensured the hike stays in the pocket of the earner.
Alberta has the highest personal income tax exemption in the country. Yes, higher earners pay more taxes but we certainly haven't noticed. And with the carbon tax we've focused on what we can do to to decrease our energy use (Save money and the environment? Yes please.) The more people can earn, the less social services need funding because they aren't "topping up" employer deficiencies. Small business taxes were also lowered to offset the wage hikes ensuring they get more direct service/cost.
As pointed out, underemployment remains a problem for workers but there are many education streams available from apprenticeships to less than a year programs to advanced degrees.
