I live in a small Canadian Prairie city with a spouse and a dog. We retired in 2018. This is what life is like.

While I enjoy the outdoors flies and bugs are zipping inside. Can't wait for the new door so we can install the storm door.

Every day since we installed the storm door at the front, we've had the door open. We are having perfect (for me) summer weather. Hot from mid-day on, cooling rain in evening.

I discovered a trick several years ago for reducing the number of bugs coming inside. We lived in a 50s bungalow with original windows (no screens), so flies were always a problem during the summer. Then, just because I love the stuff, I planted a bunch of sweet basil in empty food containers (like baby formula) on a few of our window sills. We didn't realize it at the time, but for some reason the flies didn't like the basil - so much that they wouldn't come in the house! It wasn't fool-proof, of course, but it was clear and measurable once we clued in.
ReplyDeleteAnd who doesn't love a little fresh basil from time to time?
