$900K/year is way too much to pay a public service employee especially when taken from coffers for workplace injury compensation. But, the system didn't seem to work at all like the description in the article (I'd been dealing with it for a few years) but it mostly likely depends on the employer.

$900K/year is way too much to pay a public service employee especially when taken from coffers for workplace injury compensation. But, the system didn't seem to work at all like the description in the article (I'd been dealing with it for a few years) but it mostly likely depends on the employer.

We could reduce our premium by offering modified work that gets the worker back on site AND having our safety program assessed by an external auditor every 3 years. Modified work has to be in the purview of the job description and this was usually our opportunity to get worker input in to job hazard assessments and safety labeling and painting and other tasks that people like to put on the back burner. Also, regardless of reporting timing if the injury could have happened at work, the worker was covered. Pre-existing conditions lessened the impact of the injury on premiums and we did have meetings about getting workers back.

Maybe easier since I worked on a manufacturing site not in oil and gas or construction.

  2. WCB in Alberta is kind of a limited insurance business. That said, this guy quit because the position pay is being rolled back to ~$350K.

  3. 2006 WCB refused to pay me for my work related injury. My injury was accepted by CPP Disability. How does that happen except for a corrupt system? Notley closes her eyes. She couldn’t care less.

  4. hunky dory It happens by workplaces not having job positions and tasks documented. Then the employer can use the employee's statement to exclude tasks as not related to work. WCB needs to charge companies that don't have an audited system of documenting jobs and task much higher premiums than companies that do and ensure information is communicated to workers and that Supervisors are aware of what they can and can't direct workers to do.

    CPP disability is unrelated to cause.

  5. Cass Morrison I was always under the impression that CPP was impossible to get yet in my case it was easier than WCB. That’s why I was shocked it worked that way.
