Camera instead of side mirrors - what do you think?
I like mirrors - low tech and reliable. These seem a little better for not blocking views at the pillars. I didn't think that mattered until I drove a Panamera. I couldn't get rid of the blind spot without setting the sheet weirdly high.

I live in a small Canadian Prairie city with a spouse and a dog. We retired in 2018. This is what life is like.

I feel the backup parking camera on my car is starting to make me too reliant on technology.
ReplyDeleteI get the theory ... no mirrors, improved aerodynamics, blah blah. But broken mirror glass is cheap and easy to replace - and rarely happens randomly. Cameras and LCDs and wiring and electrical ... complicated, expensive, prone to failure, etc. I can still walk into a junkyard and find perfectly working mirrors on cars from the 1950s. You can bet these systems won't last that long. And how are they affected by things like rain drops/snow blocking the cameras? The nature of mirrors makes that much less of a factor. I love tech and all ... but dangit if some things shouldn't just be left alone. Mirrors are one of 'em.
