A ward councilor who is overloaded just keeping the ward going is not someone who is going to have time to keep track of or meaningfully object to Ford's provincial changes.
ReplyDeleteAh, democracy in action. "U NO LIKE GOVERNMENT DECISION? U GO OUT NOW! NO REPRESENTATION FOR UR CONSTITUENTS!"
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why no government should be able to hold a majority. Yes, it'll be slower, but arguably less time spent undoing bad policies by the next government is a good alternative?!
ReplyDeleteI'd argue that if your proposal can't win the handful of opposition votes it needs to pass, it merits further discussion. Admittedly this creates a problem when you have corrupt parties or collusion for chaos, but if your elected officials play games to curry favour, rather than working effectively on good legislation, they should be barred from office..
