Isn't it time to understand that US mainstream media is a capitalist effort run by people who don't want to see any change in power structures. There may be some workers progressive ideals (by US standards) but news is just another version of "reality" TV. Everyone has their stereotype to play and all stereotypes are legitimate.

  1. I hate the phrase 'mainstream media' because it was created by FOX News and folks like Rush Limbaugh, basically a talking point to cast themselves as purveyors of truth, and, now, it's contributory to why we have disinterested millennials who won't vote.

However, the 'this will all blow over and things will go back to normal,' is an issue with more than the media. I feel that the Democrats don't have the fire/political will to do much.

People like Trump are not simply outliers.

  2. I include Fox news in mainstream media. To me it's the readily available channels on TV

  3. Cass Morrison I think that's like saying the Church of Satan is a mainstream religion. (No disrespect to Satanism, I'm pretty impressed by it)

  5. Douglas McMillan to me mainstream means readily available and traditional funding via advertising. Which Church of Satan do you mean, although I would agree none of them seem fit the mode of sermons and rituals I associate with traditional religions.

Lieonte Munoz Motives were clearly stated by the shooters and bomber this week. Media reports commonly associated with right wing conspiracy theories and echoed by one political party encouraged them to act. Should we not admit a problem so it can be addressed?

  6. Cass Morrison that's rather hard to answer given how news media always report with a spin.. The great "Jux" is that major media has a vested interest in keeping so called "sides" all up against each other. The dude was a nut.. Him being a pleb for Trumpism won't really change anything. This man chose to take lives sadly because he wanted to be a maytr for the at-right, that's why he didn't off himself. The freaks that are behind this wacko president don't care about his incessant lies, half-truths, and false promises. They have a champion for their dying xenophobic, racist, and elitist ideologies, so they are self blinded to realities. I would rather not give him such intense attention, as it seems to become a catalyst for fellow freaks on the fence. Look at how school shooting went from being obscure to becoming a psychotic fad. Also look at the meteoric rise of blatant public racism. Before it was blasted hour after hour on TV, it was an afterthought article in some random local paper... Today we give the racist cute Lil names.. So much so that it's become a fad... These people know they are being recode and most have to be cognizant of the obvious outcomes... So. Why do more and more get caught doing these things on camera? Because the media has sensationalized it into a fad, now these racist see themselves being soldiers for their cause. I say, report it then move on, two seconds of fame then nothing... If not, all the media is doing is radicalizing these fringe slobs.

  7. I see your point. Our goals are not mutually exclusive.
