Eye Surgery, commonplace now but so life changing.

Eye Surgery, commonplace now but so life changing.

I had vision correction 20 years ago, LASIK in one eye and implanted lens in the other. The desire for vision correction was very high, I had been thinking about it for 10 years. Once I decided to go ahead, I really was at the mercy of the doctor and the information the clinic gave me as part of consent. Fortunately I went to a high quality clinic which a good record of success. Success = vision improvement, no infections. I was an early adopter for the implanted lens and did feel like I was paying to be part of a late stage research program but I accepted it. Recently I had cataract surgery that replaced the implanted lens.

Vision is something humans are loathe to lose so ensuring the patient understand the risks in imperative. The facility providing the health care should be ranking any negative outcome as the highest severity.
