Culture varies much in a north-south line, but far less in an east-west line because climate changes so much and so quickly north to south. Agriculture is so dissimilar in one latitude of Africa from another because climate differs so much. This caused economics, culture commerce and therefore languages to be so fragmented on that continent's sub-Saharan portion.
