Vaccinations work.
Since I couldn't be vaccinated against chicken pox I caught it as a child. So I got the Shingles vaccine as an adult. No need to go through that again.
edited to add You get chicken pox from your child if you haven't had it before. Shingles is the 2nd flare up from the virus.
