I am very confused about the use of the word liberal to describe increasing early childhood education and roads quality.

I am very confused about the use of the word liberal to describe increasing early childhood education and roads quality.

Even describing quality levels for public funding as a liberal cause seems WTF. These are taxes we all pay, surely we want the best bang for our buck so yes, research needs to be funded to present to stakeholders so a decision can be made for effective use of funds as well as some kind of goal expectation.

Even though I'm pissed to be part owner of the Trans-Mountain pipeline over all I think my tax dollars are being spent pretty well but not perfectly. I would definitely like to see more affordable/low income housing available and better use of innovation to make northern communities less reliant on imported foods. Expanding communication infrastructure to allow distance work and health care would also reinvigorate smaller communities. Alberta should focus on exporting electricity from alternate energy sources and natural gas rather than flogging the oil horse.

  1. Every political party needs to remember they're two sides of the SAME COIN. They've emphasized party divides so much that they've all forgotten they're there to work for the people who voted them in - NOT their party leaders. When the party leaders dictate to the elected officials, who then dictate party line back at the constituents, we no longer have a democracy - with have dictatorships. The only ones the government should be worried about 'winning' are the people of the country. But that's been long forgotten, it seems.

  2. The term “liberal” in the U.S. was stigmatized after the landslide loss of George McGovern in 1972. Yet, liberal policies like Social Security and Medicare have been widely popular during that time, as have equal rights for women, and the environmental movement. Today, despite predictions of backlash by the mainstream public, same sex marriage rights and legal marijuana are being accepted. Meanwhile, health care is the issue voters care most about, with immigration distantly behind. Liberal in the U.S. produces one reaction when used as a whole, and a different one when used as the sum of its parts.
