Things I didn't know but don't surprise me.

Kids explore different roles as they grow up and those roles may not be considered appropriate by their parents because of their ideas of what is and isn't right for boys and girls. Wanting to be a "fireman" when they grow up is not the same as wanting to be a man. To raise a healthy child you may want to talk to a professional who will know...

Gender role non-conforming: Children who are dissatisfied, for whatever reason, with the expectations specifically thrust upon them because of their assigned sex.
Gender questioning: Any children who have doubts about their identity, but are unsure of how to articulate it.
Gender dysphoric: Children who express a persistent distress associated with their sexed attributes._

Being kind and non-judgemental is an amateur way to help.
